The Artist

1920年代後半から1930年代にかけて、
サイレント映画からトーキーへと移りゆく映画産業の中でのサイレント俳優の苦悩と、新鋭女優の飛躍を描いた作品。
2011年制作のこの映画、何とその内容同様、白黒のサイレント映画に仕上がっています。
やれＣＧＩだ３Ｄだとどれだけお金をかけてド派手に映画を作るかを見せ合っているかのような最近の映画業界の、
裏を突いてきたとても上品で美しい作品。（ハリウッドを舞台にしていますが、フランス映画なのです！）
その発想にとても感心したし、シンプルな作りがかえって新鮮に感じられました。
なにより、映画ファンとしてはこういう映画を作ろうと思うクリエイターがまだいるということに何だか嬉しくなりました。
映画館のスクリーンで観られたことをとても嬉しく思います。
個人的にとても気に入ったのはLudovic Bourceによるスコア。
声に出して読まれる台詞がなく、音楽による演出が必要不可欠なのがサイレント映画。
このBource氏のスコアは当時の映画音楽を反映しつつもとってもゴージャスで、
観客を魅了する大事な役割を見事に果たしています。

日本では「アーティスト」の邦題で2012年4月に公開予定のようです。

「派手な視覚効果だけど陳腐なストーリー」がお決まりになりつつある最近の映画に食傷気味の、大人の貴方におすすめです。

The story is about a rise and fall of an actor leading the movie industry in the late 1920s, and a young, fresh actress flourishes in talking pictures, in the early 1930s.
Guess what, just like its story, the film itself is made as a silent, black-and-white film.
(just FYI: the story sets in Hollywood, but it is a French film!)

Compared to lots of films in these days, showing off how much money people spent and how much CGI they can possibly use in one film (no matter how shitty its script is,)
“The Artist” is very simple but sophisticated, beautiful film which tells audience what a “real film” is supposed to be.
I was very impressed by this entire idea of the“black-and-white, silent film in 2011”.
That was totally mind-blowing to me.
Most of all, this delightful film made me so happy that there are people who still want to make a film by not depending on any special effects, and they also prove that making a great film doesn’t always attach to the amount of SFX!!
As a huge movie buff, that was such a pleasure to see this wonderful film on a big screen.
Personally, I really loved its score by Ludovic Bource.
Since there is no spoken lines in a silent film, music is very important to lead audience.
The film is very lucky that it’s got a gorgeous score which embellish the story very well.
Absolutely brilliant!

In Japan, the film will be released in April 2012, titled “アーティスト” in Japanese.

If you are a real grew up who’s got sick of “cheesy-script-but-I’ve-got-3D” kinda films, or has been feeling CGI fatigue,

欧州発祥のクラウド型音楽ストリーミングサービス"Spotify"がついにアメリカにも上陸しました。
総曲数1500万曲と云われている中から、自由に検索、フルサイズ視聴ができます。

まず驚くのがその幅広い楽曲のラインナップ。
Britney やLady Gagaのような流行のアーティストから、
David BowieやEric Claptonなどの超大御所、
そしてクラシックやワールドミュージックまで、大抵の曲は見つかるのではないでしょうか？
それに加え、バッファリングなしで即ストリーミング視聴出来るのも魅力です。

使用感としてはiTunesとあまり変わりませんが、
好きな曲やアルバムをお気に入りするStar機能、
facebook や twitterを介して、友達とシェアしたり、
プレイリストの公開、共有をすることも可能です。
クラウドならではの特徴ですね。

数曲ごとに広告の入る無料会員の他に、
広告なしのSpotify Unlimited、
広告なし＋オフラインでの視聴もサポートされるSpotify Premiumと、3種類のプランがあります。
わたしは無料会員ですが、それでも十分です。

このような最新のアメリカ音楽業界を覗いていると、
なぜ日本が未だに、手を変え品を変えCDそのものの売り上げを競っているのか疑問に思います。
それに、日本がクラウドコンピューティングというシステムに疎いということも。
漫画やアニメなど、世界最大の市場を築けるコンテンツがあるだけに、
日本から何も聞こえてこないのをとても残念に思います。(m)

Spotify, the Europe-born, brand-new music streaming service, is now available in US.
You can search and listen to your favorite music from tons and tons of its library.

The library provides you music from Top 50 artists Britney Spears and Lady Gaga to the legends like David Bowie and Eric Clapton, PLUS any classic music, or world music.
Most of your favorite music should be found here, I guess.
(and guess what, there is no wait for buffering either. what a HEAVEN!!)

The system itself is very easy to use.
It looks pretty similar to iTunes,
but you've got some features such as "Star" to mark your favorite songs/albums.
You can also share your playlist with your friends via Facebook or Twitter.
Which is one of things Cloud storage can do for you.

You may be bothered by the advertisements, every once in a couple of songs, if you've got a free membership.
Here are their plans:
Spotify Free: it's free, but you gotta listen to ads, which may bother you a lot.
Spotify Unlimited: no ads ($4.99/month)
Spotify Premium: no ads PLUS you can listen to music while you are offline!! (49.99/month)
(I now have got a Spotify Premium and i love it SO MUCH.)


This cutting-edge, so 2012 music service makes me wonder a lot why the heck Japanese music industry is still trying so hard to sell physical CDs at record stores.
And it seems they just have no idea what the Cloud computing is.
Since Japan has got great contents which we can boast to the world, such as Japanese manga or animation, I really hope that Japanese entertainment industry will catch up with the world sometime soon.

ニューヨーク,セントラルパークの角っこと5t Avenueの交差点にあるのは世界でも例を見ない24時間営業のアップルストアー。

昼間のお店はよっぽどの覚悟が無いと入れないぐらいに混雑しています。
硝子張りの素敵なデザインで有名な同店ですが、11月の完成を目指しての改装が進められています。

Apple Storeの旗艦店の新しい姿に世界中が興味津々(^_^)v
今年のクリスマスにはこれだけを見にNYに行きたいですねぇ〜（笑）

長い間ご無沙汰していましたが今日からBlog.を再開します。
と言ってもいつも通り。本題から少し外れた話が中心になりそうです (^_^;)

さて、再開1回目はSiggraph 2011 Vancouverです。
ACM Siggraphが米国から出るのは初めてではないでしょうか？
そんな事はともかく、Vancouverは景色が最高で治安が良くてご飯が美味しいという、三拍子揃ったとても良い都市。
サーモンを初めとした魚介類の美味しさは特筆すべきものがあります(^_^)v
日本は猛暑ですが少し肌寒いぐらい過ごしやすい毎日です。

それはともかく、VancouverのConvention Centerでジオコスモスの親戚を発見。
直径は18 ft で地軸も傾いていてゆっくり回転しています。 夜は内照で光るそうです。
とても親近感があって長い間眺めてました(g)

震災による施設の修復が完了した日本科学未来館が本日6月11（土）から営業を再開しました。

今回の目玉はなんと言っても「東京スカイツリー展」と「新しいジオコスモス」の2本立て。
沢山の方に楽しんで頂けること請け合いです。

今後このブログではジオコスモスの映像システムやコンテンツの裏側をご紹介したいと考えています。

Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) reopened today, June 11, after the massive earthquake attacked Japan.

Current exhibitions are "Making of Tokyo Sky Tree®" and "the Geo-Cosmos II". From now, I’ll show you the “behind the scenes” of GeoCosmos II.

2011年6月3日 様々なメディア報道でご存じのように日本科学未来館の新しいジオコスモスが点灯式をむかえました。
10362枚の有機ELパネルによる1000万画素以上の超高解像度画像による地球の姿は本当に素敵です。

科学データを駆使したシミュレーション画像だけでなくインゴ・ギュンター氏によるアート作品「Wold Processor powered by Geo-Cosmos」を是非未来館でご覧体験してください。

画像は約1日半前の地球の昼と夜を再現したコンテンツ、「24時間の地球」です。

As you already may know, The Geo-Cosmos II was launched on June 3, 2011.
The globe is comprised of 10362 OLED panels, and its image is depicted at super high precision exceeding 10 million pixels.

This time, with the brand-new Geo-Cosmos, you can see not only scientific contents but also an art content by Mr. Ingo Gunter.

2011年1月末。多くの関係者の苦労の末、ジオコスモス２が日本科学未来館に無事納品されました。

LED製のジオ１は華やかな光を放つ元気な球体というイメージでしたが、1000万以上の有機ELの画素がピクセル・バイ・ピクセルで描き出すジオ２の世界はまるでフラスコ画のようです。

そして今、世界中の研究機関やアーティストからジオ2のための最新コンテンツが続々と送られてきています。

Just like a painting…

In the end of January, after so many trials, the brand-new Geo-Cosmos was finally delivered.
Compared to the bright, energetic LED-made previous Geo-Cosmos, a high precision of the brand-new Geo-Cosmos creates more delicate, fresco-like images.

Many research institutions and artists all over the world have been working on new contents for the new Geo-Cosmos.　I promise it won’t let you down.

構造チームの最後の大仕事、ジオコスモス２を所定の高さに吊り上げる作業が始まりました。

コンピューター制御の最新の機材で吊り上げられると思われがちですが、実は熟練の職人チームによる手作業です。
４つのチェーンブロックを微妙に調整しながらの作業はまさに人の技の見せ場。
二日間かけてゆっくりと慎重かつ正確に作業は進みます。

これから後の球体内への出入りは高所作業車を使うしかありません。
忘れ物なんかしたら、それはもう大変(^_^;)

Hanging the new Geo-Cosmos

“Construction team” has just started to hang the new Geo-Cosmos.

Hanging the Geo-Cosmos is done by “skilled artisans,” not the latest computer-controlled equipment.
 The team adjusts 4 chain blocks delicately, carefully, and accurately over two days to get the Geo-Cosmos in place perfectly.

球体に投影する画像は複雑なパネル配置に合わせた超特殊なフォーマット。
送出制御もデーターベースと複雑に連動した高度なスケジュール管理ができる未来館特別仕様です。

このジオコスモス２の中核とも言えるソフトウェアを作るのは「一級屁理屈師」を自称する「ちょっと変わった」（一説ではかなり変わった）人達です（笑）

このチームの相互チェックはチョット大変。
趣味趣向どころか主義主張言語（コンピューターのね）の違う人達を1箇所に集めてリードする訳ですから、並大抵の苦労でありません。

しかも一度話しが脱線すると、話題は途方も無い遙か彼方に行ってしまい、当分本題に戻りません(^_^;)
でも彼らも球体構造チームと同じぐらいジオコスモスが大好きで”世界初／世界一”を目指して日々屁理屈を戦わせているのです。

Sophism and algorithms

The images projected on the globe are formatted to suit complex panel layout.

This jabber control system is the "Miraikan special version", and can perform advanced program management intricately connected with database.

The core of the Geo-Cosmos is created by “a bit weird” (or super weird?) sophists. 
That is a bit hard to check up each other because each person has different idea, faith, language( I mean, programming language) It is indeed extraordinary to lead such people at one place.
And it hard to adjust to our main topic, when we heatedly discuss other topics.
However, they love Geo-Cosmos2 and have craftsmanship that aims to be world first and only one.
